Lesson 8:
Banner Exchanges

Banner Exchanges:
How it works?
When you submit your banner to the company, they give you a code to paste into your website so you can display other member's banners.
Every time your website loads,a new banner is displayed advertising another member's web site; and in return, your banner is being advertised on someone else's site as well.
Therefore, you need to have a web site with good traffic already before you start to use the banner exchange programs. Otherwise you are much better off buyingbanner expressions outright and save all the trouble and Time.
I would suggest using FREE banner exchange programs to test which banners work best for you.
Banner exchange is very easy to set up but its not easy to track it's performance. It's even harder to get good results from it.
The click through / impression ratio is very important.
Click through = when people click on your banners, they will be directed to your target websites.
Impression = how many times your banners are shown at certain websites.
You would want to get this ratio as high as possible with your banner campaign.
The click through/impression ratio depends on two things:
1. The design of your banners.
2. The quality of your banner exchanges.
Before you do any more with banners you MUST join this
excellent free progamme http://vurl.bz/Ghenghis/intelli
Free to join with a free upgrade you can place up to 100 banners
in a rotator and then place that banner on all your sites which
makes the use of banners a much more attractive proposition.
Banner Designs
I have found that simple text banners are the most effective.
These are great places to have your own made free:-

More colourful banners or logo banners are better used for surf programs or for websites where people may already know about your businesses.
Banner exchanges:
Most banner exchanges require you to put their banners (banner codes) on your websites in order to receive banner impression through their program.
They want to exchange the banner ads (impression) by posting banner ads on your websites.
Therefore you need to own a website.
And your website should have lots of traffic to really make your banner exchange work.
It's not worth your time to use banner exchange if you don't have high traffic websites (hundreds of hits/day).
On average you may get 1 click per 500 impressions.
So if your website has less than 500 visitors/day to earn enough impression (500), you may not get 1 click (1 visitor) back to your website.
However if you can pay for the impression or get it free from surf programs, you don't have to put any banner codes or their banners on your website.
You don't need a website or website with high traffic.
After carefully testing many different banner exchanges, there are only two really worth the effort!

A great thing to do now is to place all the banner details you have collected from all
the traffic exchanges in rotators at http://vurl.bz/Ghenghis/intelli and then go and place the resultant rotators in the banner sections of all the Traffic Exchanges and safelists. You can also send them as part of html emails if you have premium membership at any safelists.
You can also place these at any other sites you become a member of too.

Bulletin/Message Boards/Forums:-
Not only can these help you bring in visitors to your web site, but you can get advice from your online peers. You can post questions, offer advice, suggestions, comments, etc.
The best in my opinion is http://viralurl.com/Ghenghis/Warrior as you can get real one to one advice from some of the industry's heavy hitters.
========================================================
Social networking Sites:-
There are plenty of these but the best 2 for marketing are Facebook and Twitter both of which allow you highly targeted advertising. You could for instance advertise to all 18 to 25 year old users in London if you wanted.I have tried both these methods though and given up as they took up too much time when compared to the sales made through them.
========================================================
Ezines:-
Only subscribe to well known ezines.
Even if it may cost a little bit more; it will save you time and money in the long run.
This is very much like your classified ads section,so you should learn to apply your judgement here too.
There are several nice directories of publishers who participate in ezine ad swaps online or give free ads for subscribing.
This is a constantly changing medium so just do a search online for ezines to get the current most popular publications.
========================================================
Blogs:-
Blogs are a great way of getting the word out and can be used to publish articles, as well as being bit of a record of your online activities in a diary format, and if you put the work in you'll get traffic from like minded people who visit.
I just use a simple google service for mine but I am pretty lazy about keeping it up to date so it hasn't performed particularly well for me.
You're welcome to take a peek:

Pay per Click:-
Google and Yahoo are dominant but there are loads of others too.
These are great to have on your website as income generators but you need to be very careful when advertising on them as if you don't know what you're doing you'll soon spend a fortune.

There thats it!
Good luck to you [[firstname]], although you won't need it as this is really very simple just do the amount you are comfortable with and in a years time you'll be amazed at the traffic and money you are making as this is a pure numbers game.
The more traffic you generate the more money you will make!
